Thai artist Aphisit Sidsunthia’s (b. 1994) surreal works explore the effects of the historical and personal events of our daily lives on our imagination and dreams. The artist combines unexpected and improbable circumstances in his paintings, where different levels of reality interact as they would in our dreams. The result is creations that challenge by asking more questions than they provide answers to, and summon our imaginations to reconcile the seeming disjunctions of situations depicted in each work. These assemblages of arbitrary images and contradictions create layers of consciousness in our minds and invites us to reconsider the true relationship between the multitude of events occurring in our lives every day.

 

Aphisit graduated from Silpakorn University in Bangkok, and has since showcased his work in solo shows in Spain, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
